Blue Collar Talent Scouts (BCTS) is approaching a significant milestone—our seventh year in business. Over the past six years, we’ve placed hundreds of people in MEP trades positions, advocated for the trades throughout Northeast Texas, and provided guidance to entry-level technicians looking to kickstart their careers. We’ve also had the privilege of training many managers and supervisors on best practices in recruiting and retention.
Our Journey So Far
What’s the secret to our success? A combination of luck, skill, and a commitment to doing the right thing for our clients. We’re most proud of the many “matches” we’ve made between great people and great companies. Every member of our small team has extensive, hands-on experience in the trades—and that practical knowledge sets us apart.
Meet the Team
Dan

Dan joined the trades over 25 years ago after leaving the Navy. He has worked in HVAC as a technician, manager, and sales professional. He has also partnered with a national job board focused on recruiting in the trades, a flat-rate pricing company, and an operations software firm. Dan’s insights on recruiting strategy and market trends are invaluable. And if you ask how his day is going, be ready for a fun twist—he’ll ask if you want the truth or a lie (spoiler: they’re the same!).
Wood

Wood’s background is in HR. He started in landscaping before moving to a national home-services company offering HVAC, Plumbing, and Electrical services. Through sixteen years in the trades, he has learned what’s important to technicians—pay, culture, and growth opportunities. He has handled tough HR situations, managed large-scale recruiting efforts, and developed soft-skills and customer service training programs. This experience helps him train managers on how to both attract and retain top talent.
Michael

Michael is the newest member of the BCTS team, and his background includes a stint as a bounty hunter—so rest assured he’ll always find the candidate!
Why Industry Expertise Matters
Some recruiting firms only “dip down” into the trades when other industries slow. They often lack detailed knowledge of the differences between new construction and service, commercial and residential, or leak detection and backflow testing. Similarly, they may not know the distinctions between HVAC/AOR install and service work, or what sets a TXV valve apart from a compressor.
By contrast, BCTS prides itself on true industry expertise. We’ve seen firsthand that knowing the details of a trade is crucial for finding the right people. Our clients trust us to understand the nuances of positions and the needs of skilled professionals, and we believe that makes all the difference.
Looking Ahead
We’re thankful for all the techs, managers, and companies we’ve served over the past six years—and we’re excited to see what the next six (and beyond) will bring. If you need help with recruiting top trades professionals or training your management team to attract and retain talent, we’re here for you.
Hit us up if you need help—and thank you for being part of our journey!
